You will learn about energy exploration, production and environmental stewardship practices, as well as industry trends, safety, economic impacts and technological advancements. You will have the opportunity to explore career paths in the energy sector.
Sask DLC coordinates the 50-hour work placement in the oil and gas sector. This course is offered in Semester 2 only.
Note: Energy and Mines - Oil & Gas 20 is currently full for Semester 2 and we have created a waiting list. If you request this course, we'll add you to the waiting list and notify you if a spot becomes available. Registration for the 2025-26 school year opens March 3.
You will learn how oil and gas is formed and how technology is used to explore and distribute petroleum, wiht a specific focus on Saskatchewan's resources.
You will explore workplace safety, effective communication and advancements in industry technology while examining treaty relationships and the impact of resource extraction on traditional territories.
You will learn about the many career paths available in the energy sector, including real-world experience as a production field operator.
The course consists of two parts:
50 hours of online theory
50 hours of work placement coordinated by Sask DLC
All students, parents and mentors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with our work placement information.
We will do our best to find a local work placement; however, we may not be able to accommodate placements in all situations, and/or some travel may be required.
